Mascoma Hockey Players Make History
Last week, four student-athletes became Mascoma Valley Regional High School’s first hockey players.
Mascoma students have never had an option to play hockey in high school. For many hockey players, high school became the unavoidable end to their hockey careers, simply because of where they lived.
But last year, then-freshmen Jayden Montebianchi and Mason Ballard stood in front of the Mascoma School Board and told them they weren’t willing to give up the sport they loved. They asked the school to consider a co-op.
Mascoma joined the existing Lebanon-Stevens co-op, which is now coached by Dean Cashman.
On Saturday, Ballard and Montebianchi joined classmate Evan George and junior Peyton Sargent on the ice for their first scrimmage as Mascoma hockey players. Their jerseys say Lebanon, but for these Mascoma student-athletes, that doesn’t matter. They’re playing high school hockey.
You can follow the Mascoma players and all their teammates all season long by following the Lebanon Ice Hockey Boosters on Facebook.
